Need Help With Your Wireless Network?

These days the wireless networks are turning  more and more popular. The ease of installation and the practicality of being able to surf the net anywhere in the house makes wireless home networks very attractive to internet users. Setting  up a wireless home network is quite  simple  but you need to know some basic things about wireless networks before attempting to start the set up.  To help you get the better  understanding of wireless networking you can read up more about the wireless networking protocols.

DSL modem and a cable with a broadband internet connection is required  to setup a wireless home network. The common set up at home is usually that of the desk top computer being plugged directly into the modem. In this tutorial we will assume  that you have a laptop that you want to connect wirelessly to the PC that is connected to the internet. You need  some hardware to make this possible.  Wireless router must be with you.   You also need  to add a USB wireless network adapter to your desk top PC and a PC card-based network adapter for your laptop computer. For obvious reasons, it is  suggested to choose the same vendor for all the additional hardware you buy.  check to the documentation that comes with your hardware for the installation process.

You can begin the set up when you already have all the necessary hardware installed. First you must unplug or turn off the DSL modem then connect the wireless router to the modem. For assistance you can check the documentation that came with your hardware. When you’ve set it up  your computer will wirelessly connect to your router. Setting up wireless router is the next step.  With Internet Explorer you can  access your router’s configuration page.

There are some things you  mustconfigure as the most of the default settings there are rather safe left alone. You need to select a unique wireless network name or SSID, this will be the name of your network. You must make sure that the name selected by you is not used by anyone else around you. Provide a unique passphrase to your router such that it will use to generate some keys. Then the last step to do before you are done with configuring the router is setting your administrative password.  Choose  a password that is not easy to guess and not too short for security reasons.  Be sure to save every setting you’ve configured. These settings vary according to the kind of router you have.

Configuring  your laptops network adapter is the next step. For this one it is easy to follow the windows XPs instructions on screen. Right-click the icon for wireless network in your task bar and click “View Available Wireless Networks” in the pop up menu that appears. There you will see the name you chose for your wireless network and other wireless connections around you in a network connection window. If you dont see your network select refresh list in upper left corner.  You will need to enter the key chosen by you in both the Network key and Confirm network key boxes. Click Connect.  As it connects to your network you can see the progress. Wireless network connection window can be closed when your connected.  Wireless connection has been set up by you.

How could you connect to a wireless network but your computer does not detect it?

I have a windows vista and windows 7 on my laptop and for some reason it does not detect wireless networks. I already have a wireless network set up from previous time but it does not show any wireless networks on the computer.
Its like when you click the icon currently connected to which is after the battery icon and before the volume icon no networks are shown. How do i solve this problem?

Try turning off/on the router and try to connect again. If not try manually entering in the router info such as the ssid and router ip address….click the wireless network icon>connect or disconnect>setup a wireless connection or network see if that detects it. Also check that your wireless card/dongle is working properly.
